This hand painted Moghul miniature 'Stamp painting' is of a Rajasthani King on horseback, his elaborately bedecked horse and his guard, and is painted on an 19th century ledger book page, a legacy of the days of Imperial India and the Days of the Raj.
A real piece of Indian history!
Above the hand painted horseman, is a large stamped seal.
The back of the paper has some writing in what I think is Urdu, plus a few other indecipherable scribbles, and another official stamp.
Details of the painting are picked out in gold.
A beautiful and fine original piece of vintage Rajasthani / Indian artwork.
It dates back to my travels in India in the 1990s.
Due to the vintage nature of the ledger paper the work has been executed on, there may be a few small holes, rips, rough edges and marks indicative of paper of this age, but this does not detract from the overall vibe and look of the painting.
Please look at the photographs carefully and feel free to ask any questions you like.
This particular piece has two small holes where the ledger page was punched into a folder.
The page measures approximately 22.5 cm x 34 cm.
